"Saint Paul reminds us that
'We are not in a battle against
flesh and blood but in a battle
against principalities and
powers, against the rulers of
this world of darkness, in
other words, the devil.'"
Saint Pope John Paul II
OUR WORLD and our
families are in a
battle with the devil.
Souls are at stake.
Nations are rocked
with abortion, violence,
rebellion, break-up of
families, wars, genocide,
extreme violence, and more.
We need the intercession of
Saint John Vianney in our
society and the world. The
devil would love to see
Catholics split into factions
and families broken.
"The devil once revealed to St. John
Vianney that if there were three such
men as himself on earth, his (Satan’s)
kingdom would be broken."
Learning from the "Cure D’Ars"
Called the "Cure of Ars", St. John Vianney
(1786-1859) was the son of a poor farmer
in Dardilly, France. He worked as a shepherd
and did not begin his education until he was
20 years old. While an ecclesiastical student
he was called for military service, and became
a "delinquent conscript" more or less because of
illness, and hid to escape Napoleon’s police.
He had difficulty learning Latin, and twice failed
the examinations required before ordination. He was
finally ordained at the age of 30, but was thought
to be so incompetent he was placed under the direction
of Fr. Balley, a holy priest in a neighboring village,
for further training.
St. John lived an austere life, ate potatoes he boiled,
and learned to keep suspended by a rope from the ceiling,
so the rats wouldn’t get to them. He allowed himself 2 hours
of sleep each night and was frequently interrupted by the
devil, who assaulted him with deafening noises, insulting
conversation, and physical abuse. These diabolical visitations
were occasionally witnessed with alarm by the men of the parish,
but the pious Cure accepted the attacks as a matter of course and
often joked about them.
St. John was given many spiritual gifts, such as the power of
healing and the ability to read the hearts of his penitents. It
was this latter gift, which caused his fame to spread throughout
France, and created large crowds seeking guidance from him.
The frail Cure began hearing confessions at 1 o’clock in the morning,
and it has been reported that he spent from 13 to 17 hours a day in
the cramped confessional.
The life of St.John Vianney was so closely bound up with the parish
of which he was the cure’, or parish priest, in the little town of
Ars, France, that he is everywhere known as 'The Cure of Ars.’
St. John Vianney labored unceasingly against the immorality, religious
indifference, and frivolity among his parishioners, which is the reason
we need his intercession so much more so today! He converted his entire
parish, and eventually became famous far and wide as a confessor and
spiritual director, with some 300 people coming to Ars everyday to confess
The devil once revealed to St. John Vianney that if there were three such
men as himself on earth, his (Satan’s) kingdom would be broken. One
Protestant gentleman, having come from a meeting with the holy Cure’,
was asked his impression. His only reply was, "I have just seen God in
Pope John Paul II reminded us many years ago of the words of
St. Paul, "we are not in a battle against flesh and blood but in a
battle against principalities and powers, against the rulers of this
world of darkness, in other words, the devil."
Our nation and our families are in a battle with the devil.

rebellion, break-up of families, wars, brutality, and more. We need the intercession
of St. John Vianney in our world, which is struggling to survive. The
devil would love to see Catholics split into factions and families
The devil tortured him for 35 years but never broke St. John Mary Vianney’s mission to win many souls for God.
