On Friday, December 13th, the Feast of Saint Lucy, Fr. Peter West of Human Life International, as part of The Ocean to Ocean Campaign in Defense of Life, brought the replica-icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa to the Mary Immaculate of Lourdes Parish. According to pious belief, this icon was painted by St. Luke the Evangelist on a cedar table and was recovered from the Holy Land by Saint Helena in the 4th century.

December 22, 2013 Bulletin
In the summer of 2010, a group of Catholic and Orthodox faithful began a global campaign in support of life and family under the patronage of Our Lady of Czestochowa. Starting at Vladivostok, Russia, the Ocean to Ocean Campaign in Defense of Life has received the support and blessings of numerous bishops in Europe as well as Metropolitan Hilarion of the Russian Orthodox Church, and is expected to circle the globe and enkindle a sustainable movement to build a culture of life.

The Campaign is based on the pilgrimage of an icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa, the "Black Madonna," which as already traveled over 40 thousand miles, traversed 24 countries, visited 75 cathedrals and 60 Orthodox churches in over 400 cities, and has been venerated by hundreds of thousands since the campaign began.

Excerpt from Human Life International
O Mary, bright dawn of the new world, Mother of the living, to you do we entrust the cause of life. Look down, O Mother, upon the vast numbers of babies not allowed to be born, of the poor whose lives are made difficult, of men and women who are victims of brutal violence, of the elderly and the sick killed by indifference or out of misguided mercy.

Grant that all who believe in your Son may proclaim the Gospel of life with honesty and love to the people of our time. Obtain for them the grace to accept that Gospel as a gift ever new, the joy of celebtrating it with gratitude throughout their lives, and the courage to bear witness to it resolutely, in order to build, together with all people of good will, a civilization of truth and love, to the praise and glory of God, the Creator and lover of life.
Blessed Pope John Paul II, Evangelium vitae
